Women's health is under attack in Pennsylvania
In the first six months of 2011, Pennsylvania lawmakers spent a shocking 30% of their days at the Capitol working to restrict access to safe, legal abortion.
Following the lead of Kansas — the most anti-choice state in the nation — Pennsylvania lawmakers chose to make the very first vote of the session about an unnecessary, dangerous Senate abortion bill. In the final few days before December recess, after stalling for months, proponents of these dangerous regulations pushed Senate Bill 732 through to the Governor’s desk where it was signed into law on December 22nd. And 2012 isn’t looking much better. The battle continues over the banning of abortion coverage in private insurance plans in the healthcare exchange, and a new battle has begun. Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives is poised to pass HB 1077, the so-called “Women’s Right to Know Act,” a mandatory ultrasound bill that would require all women to have ultrasounds at least 24 hours before seeking an abortion, require that the screen be aimed at their faces, and require that they be given prints of the image, among a host of other demeaning provisions. We see right through these legislator’s anti-choice, anti-women tactics, and enough is enough. Help us express our disappointment and fight back. Join us in declaring that… WE’VE HAD ENOUGH! |
